Back to the hand comparison chart
Numbers alone are hard to picture
Whether it is a partner, an idol, an athlete, or a character you like—you usually just want to know whose hand is bigger and by how many centimetres. Two numbers in a table are abstract; stacking both palms on one scale makes the gap obvious.
Edit height or hand length for either side in the chart above. If you only know height, we estimate hand length from typical proportions. Measured wrist crease to middle fingertip? Type that in centimetres for a closer match.
How to measure hand length
Use the same landmark every time—the wrist crease at the base of your palm to the tip of your middle finger:
- Hold your hand flat, fingers together, palm facing you.
- Place a flexible tape at the wrist crease (where your palm meets your forearm).
- Run the tape to the tip of your middle finger without bending the finger—that reading in centimetres is your hand length.
Palm width is optional here: we estimate it from hand length for the outline. For gloves, brands often want circumference as well—treat our chart as a visual reference, not a sizing certificate.
Average adult hand size
Typical adult hand lengths for quick reference:
| Group | Hand length | Palm breadth |
|---|---|---|
| Adult male (average) | 19.3 cm | 8.9 cm |
| Adult female (average) | 17.3 cm | 7.9 cm |
Individual hands vary widely—shorter people can have larger hands than taller partners. Use averages as a anchor, not a verdict.
Estimating hand length from height alone
Public profiles rarely list hand length. When only height is known, we use the same method as the chart above (~10.5–11% of height, adjusted by gender). Treat the table as approximate.
| Person / reference | Listed height | Est. hand length |
|---|---|---|
| Average woman (~163 cm) | 163 cm | ~17 cm |
| Lionel Messi | 170 cm | ~18.3 cm |
| Tom Cruise | 170 cm | ~18.3 cm |
| Average man (~175 cm) | 175 cm | ~18.8 cm |
| Lamine Yamal | 180 cm | ~19.3 cm |
| Cristiano Ronaldo | 187 cm | ~20 cm |
| Erling Haaland | 195 cm | ~20.7 cm |

FAQ
- How accurate is the height-based estimate?
- It is a population average, not your personal scan. Genetics, sport history, and age all shift hand size. Type a measured hand length in the chart when you want the overlay to match reality.
- How does hand size relate to height?
- Hand length typically tracks about 10.5–11% of height in adults, but the spread is wide. That is why we show both measurements side by side instead of assuming proportionality.
- Can I compare my hand with an idol or character?
- Yes. If you know their listed height, enter it for Hand B and pick the matching gender. For fictional entries in our Height database, use their cm value the same way—still an estimate unless you have a published hand measurement.
- Does this replace glove sizing?
- No. Glove brands use their own charts, often hand circumference. Use this page to visualize size differences; follow the manufacturer chart when you buy.
